Innovations 1900-1914
1900
Just 1 in every 9,500 Americans owned
an automobile. 40% were steam
powered; 38% were electric; and just
22% were powered by gasoline burned
in an internal combustion engine.

early Oldsmobile Electric taken
at Belle Island Park, Michigan.
1901

speedometer.
1901 Curved Dash Oldsmobile
is the first mass-produced car.
The US postal service orders
curved dash Oldsmobiles for
use as postal delivery vehicles.
Because of a fire in the Detroit plant,
Olds becomes the first automobile
manufacturer to outsource vehicle
components in order to meet the
demand.
1901 to 1903
Oldsmobile leads all American
automobile manufacturers in
number of autos produced.
